If you’ve watched NFL games where players do those neat little video clips and tell everyone where they went to college, you’ve undoubtedly heard a few players announce they’re from “THE Ohio State University.” But you might not know that Legal and Marketing folks at Ohio State–sometimes known as Other OSU–have been working for years to get a patent for “THE”.

And they finally did it!

Now only Ohio State is allowed to say “THE”. All other instances of universities or university students using this common article will have to be redacted! Bold choice, Ohio State!
