Last year, Calvin Ridley–a star wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons–earned admiration and animosity when he took a mental health year to focus on himself.
“You do you,” snarked a 2021 Ridley fantasy owner who reportedly “paid big” to get Mr. Ridley early in a redraft league. Then said fantasy owner shared multiple gifs from “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” in league chat, prior to getting a talking-to from the league commissioner about mental heath stigmas. (The Ridley owner later sent the message “stigma deez” in the league chat.)
“THIS!!!!!!!!!!” twitted a self-described girl-boss after Ridley’s announcement last season. “I tell my employees every day: life happens! Take care of yourselves! #workgoals #mentalhealth”

Today Mr. Ridley announced his intention to step away from football for the 2022 season to focus on his gambling.

Best of luck, Calvin Ridley!
