Lip readers are helping solve the mystery of a seemingly brief comment that Clippers Kawhi Leonard made to Suns Kevin Durant before the start of tonight’s game.

Sports videographers don’t catch all the interactions between players in the pre-game, since folks are being interviewed, stretching, and shooting some warm-up hoops with their chums. But several folks in the audience claim that an interesting conversation was had between Mr. Leonard and Mr. Durant!

One lip-reading spectator recalled the pre-game convo. ”Kawhi Leonard just walks up to Kevin Durant and says, ‘Hey, have you ever tried Flamin’ Hot Cheetos? They’re pretty good.’ And Kevin Durant goes, “No, I have to take my cat to the car wash.’ I don’t know what it means, maybe it’s a secret basketball code.”

Another insists a different exchange occurred. ”Kawhi Leonard ran over and said, ‘Our lives are like a sparkler on the fourth of July; oh so brief, but also beautiful and intense.’ And KD was all, ‘How many inches are in 3.9 miles?’ I’m 99% sure that’s what they said.”

“That’s not at all what happened,” said another witness. ”James Harden went over to Devin Booker and said, ‘Do you think three-toed sloths are neat?’ And Booker said, ‘Let’s go sky diving tomorrow.’ Which probably isn’t a good idea during the season, you know? James Harden turned around so I couldn’t see his face when he answered.”
